Time Mission: A Family Fun Adventure

Time Mission recently opened at the Palisades Center mall and you’re going to want to make a visit! Although it’s still in its soft opening phase, from what we’ve experienced we can tell you that it’s already a lot of fun!

What is Time Mission?

Time Mission calls themselves, “an indoor adventure game.” This attraction is not an escape room; you’re not locked in. There are, in fact, 32 different rooms. At the time of our visit only 16 out of the 32 total rooms were open, but they anticipate all of the rooms being open by the end of January.

One of the hallways of rooms at Time Mission.

Each room is a “portal” to a different year and has a specific mission for players to complete in the allotted time. This time ranges between 2-5 minutes, depending on the room. These challenges use a combination of brains, strength, coordination and speed.

I don’t want to give away any of the fun surprises, so I’m not posting pictures of the challenges. Outside each room there’s a sign that gives a short description of the challenge. It also shows how much of each skill (brain, strength, coordination and speed) is needed. We discovered that there is a learning curve to some of these challenges. The good thing is that, as long as no other groups are waiting to enter the room, you can replay the mission as many times as you want.

The sign outside the room will alert you if a portal is occupied, as seen in the image above. You are able to see what team is inside the room, what their current score is and how much time they have left in the room. The time countdown was useful in helping us determine if we wanted to wait to complete a room we hadn’t entered yet or move on to a different room.

Ultimately, the goal of Time Mission is to try to earn as many points as you can within your allotted time. When you sign up you can choose between 60, 90 or 120 minutes. The maximum number of points you can earn in each room is 100 points. There were some rooms that were so challenging that even after several attempts, we left with 0 points! There were other rooms that were just a lot of fun that we wanted to play them multiple times to earn more points.

Before You Enter

From our experience at the Palisades Center location, tickets needed to be purchased online. To save time, I recommend purchasing the tickets and completing all of the waivers before you arrive. There was a little bit of a wait when we arrived, as every group that arrived needed to complete their online payment and waivers.

After all of the paperwork is completed, you are ready to check in. Groups pick a team name from a prepopulated list of descriptive animals; we chose the Sporty Lobsters. You’ll each be given a coded wristband that stores all of your team info. Any of your teammates’ wristbands can open the rooms.

What age range is Time Mission good for?

According to the website, the minimum age to enter Time Mission is 6 years. Having personally experienced it, I recommend it for older children. Children 6-13 must be accompanied by an adult. Teens 14+ can enter Time Mission on their own.

How many people can participate at a time?

Time Mission is made for groups of 2-5. I thought our family of four was the perfect number. You can score more points with more people participating.

Final Thoughts

Time Mission was a LOT of fun! As seen from the scoreboard above, we, the Sporty Lobsters, ranked in 3rd place at the time of my photo! We had opted for a 60 minute session since we knew not all of the rooms were open. However, when all 32 rooms are open, I think at least 90 minutes are needed to explore all of the rooms.

Since many teams are playing at one time and rooms are continuously being occupied, we found it a bit difficult to keep track of which rooms we had completed. After our time was finished we discovered that there was at least one room that we hadn’t tried.

This is the type of place that you can visit multiple times. Although you may become familiar with the challenges, you can always work on beating your score. With larger groups, it would be fun to compete as teams against one another to see who can get the higher score.

We are looking forward to returning to Time Mission when all 32 rooms are open!

West Nyack Levity Live: A Night of Comedy

We all need a good laugh every now and then. If you haven’t laughed in a while, I recommend a night out at West Nyack Levity Live. This is one of the few comedy clubs in the Hudson Valley, with live comedy shows every weekend and some weeknights.

My husband and I have visited West Nyack Levity Live a couple of times in the past year. This is a great date night or girls/guys night out, since you must be 21 or over to enter.

Comedians

Levity Live has a great lineup of comedians which includes both famous and lesser known talent. Marlon Wayans recently performed and Tracy Morgan, Ian Bagg, Russell Peters and Tammy Pescatelli are on the upcoming schedule.

Each show includes a brief performance by the host, an opening act and the headliner, so expect to be entertained for about 90 minutes.

Food and Drinks

West Nyack Levity Live has a two-item minimum purchase per person, in addition to your admission ticket. There is an extensive food and drink menu and we have previously enjoyed the pretzels, churro bites and mason jar desserts. We usually have drinks and appetizers or drinks and desserts, since we are vegetarians and they don’t have many available entrees that we can order.

The venue sells wine, beer, and signature cocktails, but also serves bottled water, fountain sodas, iced tea and juices. My husband has enjoyed both the “Darker the Berry” cocktail and this “Tequila Mockingbird” cocktail.

Picanha Brazilian Steakhouse {Nyack – Palisades Center}

A vegetarian and pescatarian walk into a Brazilian steakhouse.  You’re probably thinking this is some kind of joke…..but it’s real.  Picanha Brazilian Steakhouse opened recently on January 8 at the Palisades Center Mall in Nyack and NY Foodie Family made a trip.  This is their only New York location, with two other restaurants in Philadelphia.

We skipped the parade of various cuts of meat served tableside.  We came for the Market Table, the restaurant’s hot and cold salad bar.  For $27.95/person, you can have endless visits to the different salads and sides. If you don’t know already, I’m a fan of a good buffet.  I’m not in it for the unlimited food.  I simply enjoy being able to taste a variety of dishes.

Before we committed to eating at the restaurant, my husband and I asked to check out the Market Table. For a vegetarian (my husband) and a pescatarian (me), we concluded that there were enough options for us to eat. The cold section had a variety of vegetables, salads, cheese and fruit.

The hot section included Brazilian cheese bread, plantains, rice and mashed potatoes. There were several meat dishes on the hot table including ribs, chicken wings, a meat lasagna and pieces of fried fish. Unfortunately, none of the dishes at Market Table were labeled, which made it difficult to know what we were eating.

If you’ve never been to a  Brazilian Steakhouse before, one of the big draws is the rodizio: the endless meats brought tableside. Each guest has a token at their setting with a green and red colored side.  If the green side is up meat servers will stop at your table to offer you what they are serving. If they see a red token, they know not to come to the table. For carnivores, Picanha Brazilian Steak House has plenty of meats to try. Depending on your visit, there is filet mignon, leg of lamb, beef ribs, pork, Brazilian pork sausage, chicken, lamb chops, ribeye and more! You will feast until you are full.

For wine drinkers, Picanha has a glass-enclosed wine cellar. If cocktails are more your thing, they have a menu of handcrafted cocktails.

The fruit at the Market Table was the perfect sweet ending to our meal. Baked desserts are not included in the price of the all-you-can-eat dinner and we were so full that we didn’t order dessert. The menu includes treats like cheesecake, a molten chocolate cake and tres leches.

We visited during the second week of the restaurant’s opening. There are some minor kinks that need to be worked out – one batch of white rice was undercooked and crunchy. But the next batch that came out was cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes were on the salty side. And our waiter never came to fill our water glasses. These minor glitches can easily be fixed. Since the departure of Texas de Brazil, Rockland County needed a good Brazilian steakhouse. Picanha is a welcome addition to the area.
