It’s time once again to link up with Steph and Jana for their monthly Show Us Your Books link up. This is a chance for me to share my monthly reads as well as add to my ever growing to read list! Here’s a look at my November 2016 reads:
2 Stars
Princess In Pink by Meg Cabot – This is number five in the Princess Diaries series, a YA series. This book focuses on Princess Mia wanting to go to the prom. Her mom is also super pregnant and ready to give birth to her new sibling. It’s been awhile since I had read a book in this series and I’m not sure if I’m going to continue. This book was just “eh” for me.
3 Stars
Power Your Happy by Lisa Sugar – Lisa Sugar is the founder of POPSUGAR. In this business/self-help book she talks about building her company and gives tips to the reader on different areas to help us create our “happy” like she did. Overall an okay read.
Twelve Days of Christmas by Debbie Macomber – I read this book for my 25 Books of Christmas feature on my blog. You can read the review here.
Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty – You know something tragic happens in this book but it takes forever to find out what. I didn’t find any of the characters very likable and thought the book was too long. Definitely not my fave of hers.
4 Stars
The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena – Anne and Marco Conti go to their next door’s neighbor’s house for a party, leaving their six month old baby home alone sleeping. Although they were taking turns every hour checking on the baby, when they get home for the evening, she’s missing. Now they must try to get their daughter back. I found this book to be very suspenseful, with everyone looking guilty at some point in the story.
The Mistletoe Secret by Richard Paul Evans – Another book for my 25 Books of Christmas. You can read my review here.
Never Ever by Sara Saedi – This book is a modern YA take on the classic Peter Pan. Wylie Dalton and her brothers meet Phinn at a party. They follow him to a remote island where no one ages past 17. It seems like paradise until Wylie discovers that Phinn has kept secrets from her. There is a second book in this series coming soon which I am looking forward to reading.
The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware – Journalist, Lo Blacklock is going on a luxury cruise to the North Sea to see the Northern Lights. While on the ship she sees a woman in Cabin 10, the one next to hers, but then never sees the woman again. No one else on the small ship has seen her and Lo begins to think she’s going crazy. I found this book to be a suspenseful read that kept me guessing. I’ve heard Ware’s first book, In a Dark, Dark Wood is even better so I will be checking that one out soon.
i have only read the first 2 of the princess books, i have 3 and 4 in my library pile, but i don’t know if i will continue with the whole series. right now they are perfect fluffy quick reads when my brain needs a break.
Never Ever sounds good! The Couple Next Door is on my list.
Yeah, not sure I’m going to continue with the princess diary series for now. Once my daughter gets into them in a few years then I’ll probably pick it up again.
Never Ever sounds really interesting! I love retellings of famous fairytales and stories. Truly Madly Guilty fell really flat for me as well, and I feel like my biggest problem with it was because I just didn’t like the characters as much as I liked characters from her other books. I really need to get on board and read The Couple Next Door!
Yes, I recommend The Couple Next Door if you like a good suspense book. I love modern retellings of stories as well.
I read my first Liane Moriarty book last month and while not awful, I was also a bit underwhelmed by it. I found the characters to be really generic. But I’m still going to give her another shot. Never Ever sounds really good and I’m adding it to my TBR. I also like a good re-imagining of a classic tale. The Couple Next Door and The Woman in Cabin 10 are already on my TBR. I love a good suspense novel!
Suspense novels are my favorite! I’m taking a break from Liane Moriarty for now. I’ve just been unimpressed with her recent books.
I definitely liked In a Dark, Dark Wood better than Cabin 10.
The Couple Next Door kept me invested even though I was angry at most of the characters. That’s one of the marks of a good read for me!
Yes! Read In a Dark, Dark Wood! It is definitely better!
I’m hoping to read it soon!
I thought The Couple Next Door was good too. 🙂 I really need to read The Woman in Cabin 10 soon!
Your 4 star books sound wonderful. I’ve been on the fence about The Couple Next Door and The Woman in Cabin 10. After reading your reviews, I am thinking of adding them to my TBR again. Truly Madly is never getting on my TBR, I hear more bad reviews than good. I feel like that is Moriarty all together, more bad reviews than good.
I was not a big fan of Truly Madly Guilty and it’s no secret that I hated Cabin 10. Dark Dark Wood was much better. I did enjoy The Couple Next Door, though.
And I had no idea the lady who founded PopSugar wrote a book. I mean, I should have guessed because everyone who does anything even remotely successful writes a book but I genuinely did not know.
The Woman in Cabin 10 is one I’m wait listed for right now. Hopefully I’ll get it soon!
I really liked Promise Me by Richard Paul Evans.
I will have to check out Promise Me. I will probably wait until next Christmas, but I’ve found that I like his stories!
I felt the exact same way when I was racing Truly Madly guilty!
In a Dark, Dark Wood is much better. And I totally agree, I loved the Couple Next Door, and felt Truly Madly Guilty wasn’t quite up to my expectations!
