Business News:

The Pelham Art Center (155 Fifth Avenue) has a new public art installation “Garden Poppies” by Leigh Taylor Mickelson in the courtyard.

In a recent Instagram post, Argonne Rose Brewing Company in Mohegan Lake (1715 E. Main Street) announced they were parting ways with their Brewmaster Peter Martine, over personal and creative differences. New developments are in the works and the brewery will continue to operate.

Restaurant News:

Gleason’s in Peekskill moved from South Street to a bigger location at 23 South Division Street.

This past weekend Noble Pies opened its second location in Tarrytown (38 Main Street).

Goosefeather in Tarrytown (49 E. Sunnyside Lane) is hosting an Italian Wine Dinner on August 23rd. Tickets are $195 each. Menu and wines are posted on their Instagram page. This event has been added to the August Events in Westchester County post.

Patsy’s Pizzeria in New Rochelle (2 Pelham Road) has added a Prix Fixe lunch menu. Available Monday through Friday, 11:30 AM to 3 PM, enjoy a choice of appetizer, entree and dessert or drink for $29.99 + tax.

Town House in New Rochelle (559 Main Street) is closed August 13 – August 20. They will reopen on August 23rd.

Business News:

123Dough Bakery in Pound Ridge (78 Westchester Ave.) will be closed for vacation August 6 though August 16.

Chocolations in Mamaroneck (607 East Boston Post Road) will be closed August 19th through September 5th.

Restaurant News:

Westbrook Brick Oven Pizzeria (2 Westbrook Drive) in Cortlandt Manor has announced weekly special offers:
Monday – Any chicken dinner for only $11.95 + TAX Served with pasta or salad 
Tuesday–  pizza day Large pizza for only $10.95 + TAX  Any topping additional charge 
Wednesday pasta night  -$8.95 + TAX

Sundays from 9 AM – 1 PM visit the new Scarsdale Farmer’s Market in Scarsdale (29 Chase Road). Shop from local farmers, bakers and creators.

Coffee Labs Roasters opened a new shop in Eastchester (483 New Rochelle Road, Bronxville) last week. This is in addition to their shop in Tarrytown. 

Donjito in Mamaroneck (122 Mamaroneck Avenue) reopened last Thursday. They have been closed since May 21 due to an expired special use permit. The Zoning Board unanimously approved the new permits that allowed them to reopen.

After being temporarily closed for renovations, the Peekskill coffee House is reopening August 9th.

Jaipore Xpress opened a second location in Briarcliff Manor (1116 Pleasantville Road). Their original location is in Ridgefield, CT.

T-Swirl Crepe is now open at the Cross County Center in Yonkers (8000 Mall Walk).

Business News:

Beer Noggin in Bronxville (102 Kraft Avenue) is closing. Today (7/31) is their last day of business.

Although no official announcement has been made on social media, the Ossining Bakery in Ossining (50 N. Highland Avenue) appears to be closed.

Sweat New York opens August 1 in Pleasantville (2 Jackson Street). The studio offers hot vinyasa flow yoga and sKulpt classes. Check their website for schedules.

Last Thursday Backyard Butchers opened in Yorktown Heights at the Jefferson Valley (near Macy’s). The pop-up offers restaurant quality meat at near wholesale pricing.

Restaurant News:

Every Tuesday Dubrovnik Restaurant in New Rochelle (721 Main Street) offers a whole Branzino for $20. Grilled over charcoaled wood, it is served whole and fileted tableside. 

Saltaire Oyster Bar in Port Chester (55 Abendroth Ave.) has introduced “Saltaire Supper.” Join us every Tuesday & Wednesday in The Chart Room from 4-9PM for Saltaire Supper. This 3 Course “Off the Hook ” dinner features Saltaire favorites – all accompanied by our famous Corn Bread & Salted Honey Butter.  $40per person. This offer is limited to up to groups of 6 and is not offered at the bar.

The Cube Inn in Tarrytown (22 Main Street) is now serving The Flamingo drink with a free flamingo floatie, while supplies last.

Ofori’s World Cuisine in Peekskill (982 Main Street) debuted a $10 lunch menu. Served 12-3 Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Starting last week, Goosefeather in Tarrytown (49 East Sunnyside Lane) is offering guests 1/2 off bottles of rosé at the Lawn Bar, with the purchase of food from the lawn menu on Thursdays only. The Lawn Bar is open Thursday through Sunday from 6PM to 10:30PM. This deal is available on the lawn only (not in the restaurant or on the patio/garden).

Business News:

Lile Boutique Spa in Peekskill (12 N. Division Street, 2nd floor) is now offering Reiki. Massage therapist, Alexa, is taking reiki energy clients.

Farida Skincare Studio in White Plains (120 Bloomingdale Road) has new meditation/yoga classes at the Farida Studio. Instructor Deanna leads the classes on Wednesday at 9:30 AM or 6:30 PM and Saturdays at 9:00 AM.

Visit the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers (Warburton Avenue) for Feel Good Fridays. They are offering free admission 5-7 PM through August 25th.

Restaurant News

July 22Wanna Empanada, known for their empanada food truck, just opened a storefront this past weekend in Ossining (238 North Highland Avenue).

July 27 Freddy’s Pleasantville celebrates their one year anniversary. The Pleasantville restaurant (472 Bedford Road) is also a Jacob Burns Film Center (364 Manville Road) partner. During blockbuster movie week, from July 20-July 27, they are offering patrons 10% off their Freddy’s bill when you show your Jacob Burns ticket stub. Plus, Jacob Burns members receive a 10% discount all year round.

Baked By Susan in Croton on Hudson (379 S. Riverside Ave.) now serves afternoon tea. The teas from Brooklyn Tea Company can be accompanied by an assortment of homemade tea sandwiches, scones, muffins, cookies and more.

The Tee Bar and Grille in Shrub Oak (795 Route 6) recently opened. The modern American bistro is on the property at The Links at Valley Field golf course.

Due to the recent heavy rain and floods, Bob-B-Q’s in Shrub Oak (958 E. Main Street) had to close for some time. The restaurant is now open again and can use the support.

Rosa’s La Scarbitta in Mamaroneck will be reopening as Rosa’s Cucina Italiana at their new Mamaroneck location (410 W Boston Post Road). The soft opening is July 26th.

Westchester Weekly: July 17, 2023

Welcome to the newly updated Westchester Weekly. There’s always so much going on in the local food and restaurant industry. Here you can find some of the highlights from Westchester County restaurants and businesses:

Restaurant Openings:

Check out some of these new restaurants that have recently opened. Since this is a new feature, I’ve listed some of the restaurants that have opened over the past month:

Cenadou opened in North Salem in June (721 Titicus Road). This is a French bistro serving lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. They are open Wednesday through Sunday.

Tutto Cream had their grand opening at the beginning of July. The bakery/dessert shop is located in Hawthorne (422 Commerce Street) and sells gelato, sorbet, cakes, tarts and more.

La Casa de Nina also opened in Hawthorne (415 Commerce Street) June 30th. They serve Peruvian and Greek food and are open daily 11 AM – 11 PM.

Bistro de Ville opened in Scarsdale (185 Summerfield Street). Enjoy French cuisine from the same team at Purdy’s Farmer and the Fish.

Benny’s Brown Bag opened in Peekskill (1100 Elm Street). The deli/sandwich shop is open 11 AM – 4 PM, Wednesday through Sunday.

Doggology opened in Montrose (2081 Albany Post Road). This fast casual restaurant serves a variety of different hot dogs, fries, sides and treats. They are open Tuesday through Sunday (hours differ by day).

The Xavier Group has a Thursday Three Course dinner special at The Dylan Bar at X20 in Yonkers (71 Water Grant Street) and the Bully Boy Bar at Restaurant X (117 NY-303) in Congers. They do not take reservations and seating is in the bar and lounge area. The menus differ at each location.

Homestyle Desserts Bakery in Peekskill (24 South Water Street) and Homestyle Creamery in Cold Spring (351 Main Street) have weekly ice cream specials including Two-Dollar Tuesday ($2 small soft-serves) and BOGO Wednesday (BOGO soft-serve sundae). 

To celebrate the release of the Barbie movie on July 21st,  Wildly Cakes in Dobbs Ferry (218 Ashford Avenue) is selling Barbie themed desserts Friday and Saturday, while supplies last! 

NH44 in Hartsdale (219 E. Hartsdale Ave.) is introducing Happy Hour starting July 18 with food and drink specials, Monday through Thursday from 3-6 PM.

Starting July 17th Red Hat on the River (One Bridge Street) is now open on Mondays beginning at 4 PM.

The Bedford Playhouse (633 Old Post Road, Bedford) is showing the new Barbie movie, which opens July 21st. They have a specialty cocktail “The Barbie Playhouse” available at the Bambi Bar. A non-alcoholic version of the drink is also available.

Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard (130 Hardscrabble Road, North Salem) has popup midweek blueberry picking on Wednesday, July 19th. Tickets are on sale now.

Branches of Beauty: (Scarsdale) The skin care and beauty boutique has Valentine’s Day Specials for the entire month of February including 15% off all gift cards, a special facial of the month and beauty packages.

The Katonah Reading Room: (Katonah) The Katonah Reading Room is opening this week after a remodel of the space. Shop the bookstore and enjoy a cup of coffee and lunch in the coffee bar.

Saturdays: (Hastings) Shop the winter season Hastings Farmers Market at the Zinsser Commuter Lot on the first and third Saturdays of the month. The market opens at 9:30 AM and it is recommended that you pre-order.

Saturdays: (Mamaroneck) Shop the Mamaroneck Winter Farmers Marketat Harbor Island Park from 9 AM – 1 PM. There will also be a textile recycling collection at this week’s farmers market.

Wednesdays: (Yorktown Heights) Winter Farmers Market at the Jefferson Valley Mall January 6 – April 7 at the Jefferson Valley Mall on the upper level near the food court. The market will take place from 1:30 – 5:30 PM every Wednesday through April 7.

Play

(Through February 7):  Teatown Hudson River EagleFest – This year there will be no festival at Croton Point Park. Instead, there are both virtual and limited attendance in-person events taking place January 30th – February 7th. Registration is now open for the various programs.

Saturday, February 6th: (Harrison) The Westchester Children’s Museum in partnership with Life Time Fitness is offering an in-person Smart Tennis Workshop from 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM. This workshop is for children ages 5-8 to introduce them to the fundamentals of tennis. Please bring a tennis racquet and wear non-marking sneakers. $18/member, $20, non-member – pre-registration is required.

Saturday, February 6th: (Yorktown Heights) Bestie Bash Hearts & Crafts at Pizzazzles in the Jefferson Valley Mall. This free event takes place from 11 AM – 12:30 PM and includes a DJ, crafts, prizes and fun. (SOLD OUT!)

Saturday, February 6th: (Katonah) The Katonah Museum of Art reopens on Saturday, February 6th with the Young Arts exhibition. The public opening of this exhibit begins February 9th.

Saturday, February 6th: (Rye) Make a Polar Bear with polymer clay workshop at The Rye Arts Center. Ages 5-8, 2 PM – 3 PM, ages 9-12, 3 – 4 PM. $20/participant (members receive a discount).

Saturday, February 6th: (Garrison)  Enjoy eagle viewing at Boscobel House and Gardens with Constitution Marsh Audubon and Putnam Highlands Audubon.  Two hour time slots are available from 9 AM – 2 PM.  Admission is $12/adult, $10/senior, $6/children (age 5-18), Free/children under 5.  Advance registration is required. All participants must bring their own viewing equipment (binoculars, scopes, etc.) Masks are required. 

Upcoming:

Thursday, February 11th: (Rye) Valentine’s Day Workshop: Laser Cutting with Glowforge at The Rye Arts Center. Ages 9-12, 4:30 PM – 6 PM. Students will use CAD to create a Valentine’s themed pendant or pin that will then be laser cut and engraved. All supplies included. $25/participant (members receive a discount).

Thursday, February 11th: (Rye) The Rye Arts Center is partnering with the Greenwich Library to present a virtual night of live theater. Love Notes: One-Act Plays with Play With Your Food will be presented virtually from 7 PM – 8 PM by professional actors from JIB Productions. Register with the Greenwich Library to receive the Zoom link and password. This event is free.

Saturday, February 13th: (Yorktown Heights) Valentine’s Day Eve Party at Pizzazzles in the Jefferson Valley Mall. This is a drop off event where kids will dance to a DJ, enjoy a spaghetti and meatball dinner, sip on sparkling punch, decorate cupcakes, paint, play games and more. 6:15 PM – 9:00 PM, $45/child.

Saturday, February 13th: (Rye) The Westchester Children’s Museum is holding an in-person Cupid’s Color Lab from 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM. This workshop is for children ages 4-8 and is half chemistry, half art as they create colorful, unique Valentine cards. $9/participant (members), $10/participant (non-members). Pre-registration required.

Saturday, February 13th: (Rye) The Rye Arts Center is holding a Valentine’s Day Pop Up Cards Workshop. The workshop is from 10 AM – 12 PM for ages 10 and up. Bring a picture of a special person or animal. Materials will be provided to make 3 cards. $25/participant (members receive a discount).

(Saturdays) February 13th – March 13th:  (Yonkers) Sugar Maple Tree Tapping at Lenoir Preserve. Saturdays from February 13 – March 13, families can learn how they tap the maple trees at the preserve.  $20/session (30 minute time slots).   Program is by reservation only. City Limits Diner: (White Plains) The City Limits Diner has curated Super Bowl party packages or you can customize your own snacks from their special menu. Orders must be placed by February 3 and payment is due at time of order.

Diner Brew Co.: (New Rochelle) In honor of Inauguration Day, Diner Brew Co. is releasing 3 new draft beers today.

Downtown White Plains Restaurant Month: (White Plains) Enjoy the first White Plains restaurant month now through January 31. Select restaurants are offering Prix Fixe lunch ($20.95), dinner ($30.95) and 2nd Tier Dinner ($40.95) specials.

Peekskill Empanadas: (Peekskill) This new Peekskill business sells homemade Colombian empanadas. All empanadas are $2 each and they currently sell seasoned beef with potatoes or seasoned chicken with potatoes. They also make vegan/vegetarian options upon request.

Samosa Shack: (deliveries Thursday – Sunday or pick-up at TASH Farmer’s Market) In honor of today’s inauguration, Samosa Shack has a special celebratory menu this week (you can get more detailed descriptions of the celebratory menu items from their Facebook page). You can order for delivery Thursday – Sunday or orders can be picked up Saturday, January 23rd at the Tarrytown And Sleepy Hollow (TASH) Farmer’s Market from 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM. $10 minimum orders.

Lauren Boutique: (Larchmont) This week the shop is having a clothing sale with 30-50% off.

Rubysue: (Katonah) is having a 50% off sale plus you can preview their new spring arrivals.

Vintage & Vine and Auntie Liana’s Baked With Love are returning to the Jefferson Valley Mall with another pop up shop beginning Friday, January 22nd. They will be open Wednesdays 1-7 PM and Friday, Saturday and Sunday 11 AM – 7 PM.

Play:

A Maze in Pottery Puppy Adoption: (Briarcliff Manor) A Maze in Pottery is hosting a Puppy Adoption Painting Event on Friday, January 22nd from 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM. Order your puppy adoption kit that you can enjoy painting from the comfort of your home during the Zoom painting party (Zoom link will be sent after you book the class). The kit comes with a stuffed puppy, a ceramic puppy (to paint), matching colors, brush and an adoption certificate, that all comes packaged in a dog house box. Cost: $33.90 + tax/child, sibling discount = 2 projects for $60 + tax.

Papi’ restaurant Virtual Cooking Class: (online) Papi’ restaurant in White Plains is holding a virtual cooking class. Participants will learn how to make Amatriciana Pasta. The class costs $25 and makes enough for two people. The fee includes the recipe kit with all of the main ingredients, the recipe and access to the zoom link. Kits must be picked up between 12 PM and 6 PM on Thursday. The class takes place via Zoom from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM.

The Pottery Factory Valentine Gnome Tree Workshop: (Mount Kisco) January 22 from 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM enjoy painting a Valentine Gnome Tree at The Pottery Factory. The $79.00 fee includes the gnome tree, a multi-color light pack, a star and light kit. This is a BYOB, adults only event.

The Rye Arts Center BYOB Paint Night: (Rye) Enjoy an adults only evening of painting at the Rye Arts Center. On January 21st from 6:15 PM – 9:00 PM participants can bring their own drink of choice and paint a still-life. All supplies are included. $55/person (members receive a discount). Pre-registration is required.

The Rye Arts Center Bird Book Sculpture Workshop: (Rye) Kids ages 9-12 can make a bird sculpture out of an old book at The Rye Arts Center. This workshop takes place January 23rd from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM. Participants are asked to bring an old book (hardcover or paperback). $20/child (members receive a discount).

Winter Seeding Workshop: (Bedford Train Station) This is a free outdoor workshop on Sunday, January 24th. Participants should bring a couple gallon jugs or recycled containers that can hold 3″ of soil and be covered with a lid. Soil, native seeds and instructions will be provided and experienced gardeners will be on hand to answer questions.

A Maze in Pottery “Winter (Love) Bird” Chip ‘n’ Dip Adult Online Class: (Virtual) A Maze in Pottery is hosting an online adult painting class
on Friday, January 29th from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM. The class is $34.90 and participants will paint a “Winter (Love) Bird” Chip ‘n’ Dip dish. Materials can be picked up a the store or delivered (for a charge). Registration closes 3 days before the event.

The Pottery Factory Valentine Seascape Workshop: (Mount Kisco) On January 29 from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM enjoy creating a valentine resin pour seascape at The Pottery Factory. Participants can bring their own beach memorabilia to include in the resin pour. Safety goggles and gloves are provided. This is a BYOB, adults only event. $49 for a 8×10 seascape frame, $59 for a 10×13 seascape frame.

Lile Boutique Spa: (Peekskill) Visit this recently opened Skincare Boutique in Peekskill that specializes in, “preventative care, corrective treatments, and graceful aging.”

Prosper IV: (Yonkers) This Vitamin IV spa in Yonkers is having a M.L. King Day special where all drips are only $150 and members will receive a free B-12 shot with a drip.

Play:

Basic Knife Skills Class with ZWILLING Cooking Studio: (Virtual) Learn the fundamentals of good knife skills from instructor Bernard Janssen. This class is being offered Friday (January 15th: 6 PM – 7:30 PM) and Saturday (January 16th: 1 PM – 2:30 PM). The class is free but registration is required.

Discover Bedford Scavenger Hunt: (Bedford) Created by Rock Paper Scissors Events, enjoy a drivable scavenger hunt around the town of Bedford. The scavenger hunt costs $10, with 50% of every sale being donated to the Community Center of Northern Westchester. The scavenger hunt is approximately 16 miles and takes about 35 minutes to complete. The route will be available through April 2021.

Family Art Activity at the Hudson River Museum: (Yonkers) This week at the museum enjoy drawing your own landscape on a postcard. This art activity is inspired by the works of Cynthia Daignault and other artists in the Landscape Art and Virtual Travel exhibit. Packets with supplies will be provided. Hammond Museum and Japanese Stroll Garden: (online) The Hammond Museum in Katonah is hosting a free virtual event, “A Sneak Peek at Japanese Art Highlights” tonight (January 13th) at 5 PM via Facebook. Register online.

House of Sports: (Ardsley) House of Sports is holding a Holiday Camp on Monday, January 18th from 9 AM – 3 PM. There is a multi-sports camp for K-2nd grade and Basketball and Soccer camp for grades 3-8. Full-day camp costs $70/child.

Virtual Travel Through the Five Senses: Sound at the Hudson River Museum: (virtual) This virtual program is the second in a family program series that explores artwork through the five senses. This program’s focus is all about sound. Participants will explore a selection of Cynthia Daignault’s Light Atlas and then make a collective sound recording. The event is free, but registration is required.

The Cookery: (Dobbs Ferry) The Cookery is offering New Year’s feasts to take out. They have several different entree choices with a variety of add-ons.

Meraki Taverna: (Armonk) This Greek restaurant is open for their normal dinner hours on New Year’s Eve and opens at 4 PM New Year’s Day. They are serving their regular menu.

Meso Mediterranean Cuisine – (Rye) This restaurant opened in Rye earlier in December. They are open New Year’s Eve and will be serving brunch January 1, 2021.

Modern on the Rails – (Mamaroneck) Modern on the Rails is ringing in the new year at 8 PM on New Year’s Eve. They are serving their regular dinner menu. Reservations are requested.

OKO – (Rye) This Japanese restaurant is open New Year’s Eve with seatings between 5 PM – 8:30 PM. Takeout is also available.

Tredici North – (Purchase) They are offering both indoor and outdoor seating, takeout and delivery for New Year’s Eve dinner.

Z Prime Italian Steakhouse: (White Plains) Z Prime is serving a 5 course dinner with beer, wine and soda for $225/person. There will also be live entertainment. Reservations with a deposit are needed.

Beascakes Bakery: (Armonk) Starting today they have special New Year DIY cookie decorating kits.

Longford’s Ice Cream – (Rye) is selling mini sundae bars to go that serve up to 10.  Everything, from ice cream and four toppings to the cups, napkins and spoons, costs $35.

The Cliffs – (Valhalla) Through tomorrow (12/31), The Cliffs is open from 10 AM – 6 PM for staff assisted climbs with free gear rentals. You need to book in advance.
